3Buckminster Fuller repeated his major concepts, themes, anecdotes, and examples—with minor differences (and occasional inconsistencies)—throughout his lectures and writings. This book is an introduction, not an academic treatise. I have made no attempt to footnote paraphrases, quotes and concepts, but I have taken care to identify what is certainly his. I accept responsibility for any errors in my story. They are inadvertent.
4 Most of the photographs in this book are copyrighted by the Buckminster Fuller Institute, or Allegra Fuller Snyder (as indicated below), and are used courtesy of the Buckminster Fuller Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Photographers are identified where possible, but many photographs in the Fuller Archive are unmarked and unattributed. When action was afoot, Bucky was usually armed with a camera or two. Some of the uncredited shots are doubtless by him, but there is no way to be sure.
