2In addition to library research, the material for this book was collected through interviews with friends and relatives, examination of public records, and attendance at Dr. Fuller’s lectures in Buffalo and Philadelphia. I have consolidated details to convey the typical pattern of vacations on Bear Island. Wherever possible, I have tried to use Dr. Fuller’s own words to describe a feeling, thought, or event.
